The History of

Indigenous education, inc.

Indigenous Education, Inc. (IEI) was founded in February 2016 to administer the Cobell Scholarship Program. IEI started in a small casita in the backyard of President and CEO, Melvin E Monette-Barajas, and quickly expanded to the current office located at 6501 Americas Parkway NE Suite 825 Albuquerque, New Mexico 87110.

  • February 2016: Founded

  • March 2016: Bridget Neconie, Maloni R Fox, MJ Cordova, and Shea Gonzales were hired. Contracted with AcademicWorks, Obsidian, Pulakos CPAs

  • July 2016: Julia Mosconi hired

    Moved into office in Uptown Albuquerque, New Mexico

  • September 2016: Partnership with the College Board announced

  • June 2017: Department of Research and Student Success created.

    Dr. John Garland hired.

  • June 2017: Wellness Series kicks off.

    Dream Warriors Partnership Announced.

    Shared Research Meeting held in Washington DC (Native Inter-Organization Research & Data Collaborative(NIRD))

  • August 2017: AcademicWorks merges with Blackbaud to serve more students

  • October 2017: Partnership with the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) Announced


  • January 2018: Contracted GradSnapp for student engagement purposes
